After nine years of fans patiently waiting, A Perfect Circle have finally released a new song. The solitary new track, 'By and Down,' will see an official release on Nov. Although A Perfect Circle have only put out three full-length albums, the band's fan base has been rabid ever since APC made its debut with the masterful 'Mer de Noms' in However, vocalist Maynard James Keenan recently reassured fans that he's working not only on new A Perfect Circle material, but new Tool and Puscifer pieces, as well. Keenan even teased a release for Tool's fifth full-length album. The track opens with piano and orchestral chimes setting the mood, before Howerdel's simple but atmospheric guitar lead sends the song afloat, with Keenan acting as its sail.
Does it matter? And how did Keenan reconcile those doubts? What Keenan and his Perfect Circle partner, guitarist Billy Howerdel, made was somewhat of a departure from past albums — a quieter display of the complex emotional tableaus they made their calling card in the early s. Howerdel first discussed working on the album with Keenan — who splits his time between his other bands Tool and Puscifer, and his winemaking business in Arizona — about a year and a half ago, and from there they just waited for the right chunk of time to focus on it. It was as simple as that.
Searching your eyes for a hint or a trace of humility Searching your eyes for the saint is an act of futility Searching your eyes for a hint or a trace of it Searching your eyes for humility Searching your eyes for a hint or a trace. Moving in and out of the shadows. Fronted by Tool vocalist Maynard James Keenan. Searching your eyes for a hint or a trace of humility Searching your eyes for the saint is an act of futility. Showing only bits and pieces, Till the tide betrays you, And your empty allocution. Searching your eyes for a hint or a trace of humility.
The track represented the first studio material from the band in almost a decade's time. The studio version appears on the band's greatest hits album, Three Sixty , while a live version appears on their live box-set A Perfect Circle Live: Featuring Stone and Echo , both released in The song peaked at number 8 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. An alternate version of the song, titled "By and Down the River" , was later released on the band's fourth studio album, Eat the Elephant. After the release of their third album Emotive , in , A Perfect Circle went into a hiatus while the band's two major creative forces worked on other projects; lead vocalist Maynard James Keenan returned to work with his other bands, Tool and Puscifer , while Billy Howerdel released a solo album, Keep Telling Myself It's Alright under the moniker Ashes Divide. The only complete song to result from these sessions would be "By and Down".
