La Leyenda de la Llorona is an animated horror adventure comedy film based on the legend of La Llorona. The second installment of the Leyendas film saga, it is a sequel to La Leyenda de la Nahuala , which was a box-office success. The English-subtitled version of the film was also released in direct-to-video and digital platforms in the United States , distributed by Pantelion Films and Lionsgate. Beto and his little sister Kika are asking for "calaverita" a Mexican tradition of asking for candies and fruits from neighbors in a village of Xochimilco on a deserted, dark and foggy night. Kika very loudly begins asking for candies , which causes Beto to become nervous. While waiting for Kika to come back from a house that is far down the street, Beto spots an eerie figure going in her direction.

Much like its predecessor, La Leyenda de la Llorona is a 2-D animated horror-comedy film staring Leo San Juan , who has greatly matured since the events in the old Manor in The film deals with the legend of the Llorona, a monster of Mexican folklore that kidnaps children to make up for the lost of her own. Notably, the film starts off almost exactly where the last one ended, making the two extremely closely connected. Kika complains that they're only getting fruits, not candy and demands her brother to look as if he's starving to gain the pathos of the treat givers. Beto is very respectful to those who gave them treats, while Kika throws a temper tantrum and decides to trick or treat without him. Hearing the Llorona approaching, Beto calls out the witch and runs away, luring the witch towards him as to save his sister from her terror. Kika, now noticing her brothers dropped bag of treats realizes something went horribly awry and begins searching for him.
