Angioedema is a condition which can cause swelling and puffiness of the face, mouth, tongue, hand or genitals. It is often related to an allergic reaction to food, medicines or insect bites.
While cold hands can be painful and uncomfortable, warm hands can also cause problems. In some cases, your hands may just feel warm compared to the rest of your body. In others, you might even notice a burning sensation in your hands. Warmth or burning in both hands may be caused by a rare skin condition called palmar erythema. This condition also causes a splotchy red color on your palms, and sometimes even your fingers. Some cases of palmar erythema have no known cause, or it may be inherited.

Erythromelalgia is a rare condition that primarily affects the feet and, less commonly, the hands extremities. It is characterized by intense, burning pain of affected extremities, severe redness erythema , and increased skin temperature that may be episodic or almost continuous in nature. The prefix "erythro-" denotes redness, "mel-" is a combining form meaning limb or limbs, and the suffix "-algia" indicates pain. Although erythromelalgia typically affects both sides of the body bilateral , it may sometimes involve only one side unilateral. The disease course may be extremely variable from case to case. Symptom onset may be gradual insidious , with the condition potentially remaining relatively mild for years.

Back to Health A to Z. Erythromelalgia is a rare condition that causes episodes of burning pain and redness in the feet, and sometimes the hands, arms, legs, ears and face. Symptoms of erythromelalgia can begin at any age. Some people may have had it from early childhood, while some are only affected as adults. The pain can range from mild, with only a minor tingling feeling like pins and needles, up to a severe burning pain, which can be bad enough to make walking, standing, socialising, exercising and sleeping difficult. People with erythromelalgia typically suffer episodes or "flare-ups" of pain lasting from a few minutes to days. The flare-ups usually start as an itching sensation, which worsens to pain, and tender mottled, red skin that feels warm or hot to the touch.
