With a new semester comes a recurring problem for Ashland High School students. Almost every student at some point in their high school career will want to change a class, and the AHS counseling office makes it simple and easy. Once a student has decided to change their schedule for whatever reason they need to contact their counselor. For students with last names that begin with A-Le, their guidance counselor is Steve Smith. For students with last names that begin with Li-Z, they need to go to Amy Kennedy. A majority of students go into the counseling office across from the library to make a change, but students can also email their counselor for simpler changes, or students can fill out a class change note if they do not care about the new class they are put in and just need to get out of their current one.

The college hopes of students all across America are about to take a serious self-inflicted hit. Even as we speak, seniors are rediscovering the textbooks and assignments they neglected over Christmas break. As they review the depth and breadth of this homework, they promise themselves "Next semester will be different" -- but they aren't talking about being more organized. Most students don't realize it, but the college applications they complete and the acceptances they receive all have one thing in common -- colleges assume the schedule of classes you've listed on the application is the schedule of classes you'll be taking. Colleges use this information -- called "strength of schedule" -- to see how much you like to challenge yourself, and they take that into consideration when reviewing your application. If you send grades to colleges for classes that aren't on that list of classes, colleges are surprised -- and we're not talking the "I was hoping for a Civic for my birthday but got a Maserati" kind of surprised. If you're thinking about changing your schedule, talk to someone.

August edited August in High School Life. Im surprised this didn't turn up in my search results for high school.. Do counselors ask you why you want to switch classes? For example theres a really horrible Spanish teacher and unfortunately I received her during orientation. If you go to the counseling office and say you wish to have Mr.
