Sign in. David Oyelowo Don't Let Go , Selma fills in the blanks on his career, including one credit he wishes he could get a do-over on. Watch now. Title: A Fistful of Datas 07 Nov When a supply ship is a day late, the Enterprise crew has an unexpected day to kill in leisure.
The season begins with the successful rescue of Data from the nineteenth century, and we learn just how long Guinan has actually known Picard. The crew also took part in a variety of shady operations, the first of what would be many departures from Gene Roddenberry 's more Utopian vision of the future. Picard is temporarily assigned away from the Enterprise for a dangerous espionage mission against the Cardassians , but is captured and subjected to torture, nearly succumbing before being released. Deanna Troi engaged in a similarly risky mission of espionage against the Romulans. The Enterprise also nearly became a victim of space pirates.
After a computer malfunction, Worf , his son Alexander Rozhenko, and Counselor Deanna Troi are trapped in an Old West holodeck program wherein the interactive characters physically resemble and have the same enhanced abilities as Data. They ask for permission to experiment with creating an interface between Data's positronic brain and the ship's computers, so he can act as an emergency backup system in case of ship-wide failure. Picard enthusiastically grants them permission and goes back to the recording when they leave, but is interrupted again by Doctor Beverly Crusher. She wants him to perform in her next play, " Something for Breakfast "; when he protests about his lack of free time and acting skill, Beverly explains she only wants to cast him in the minor role of the Butler , and assures him he can do it, reminding him of the rehearsal time as she exits. Picard again resumes the recording, but is almost immediately interrupted for a third time by Worf , who presents a proposed schedule for security drills.
The episode is a science fiction episode set primarily in a holographic old west town, with characters that are normally aboard the USS Enterprise D. Major characters include Data , Troi , Worf , and Alexander Worf's son , as well as several guest stars filling in as various holodeck characters. This episode features a scene with "Data in Drag" and also has numerous comedy elements. The Enterprise has arrived 2 days early for a rendezvous with a supply ship, USS Biko, and thus the crew spend the time to pursue personal activities. Data and La Forge propose to Captain Picard to attempt to set up systems that would allow them to use Data's processing abilities to run critical systems in the case of main computer failure, and he allows them to proceed. Worf tries to use his Starfleet tactics to end the episode quickly, but Alexander insists that he play along with the scenario.

This won't come as a shock to any of you, but I don't know that much about science. I enjoy science fiction, but in terms of believability, all I ask is that the story not directly contradict any basic physical laws. Or if it does, it should at least provide some explanation for doing so. Beverly and O'Brien work up some explanation involving biological coding and power fluctuations, but it's a stretch that such an event would happen entirely randomly, without any connection to anything else. That's not entirely due to the implausibility; reducing Picard, Ro Laren, Guinan, and Keiko to youthful versions of themselves is a concept which doesn't interest me in the slightest, plausible or no. Usually, when it comes to premises, I can understand where the writers are coming from even if I don't entirely agree that they got there.
