The 28 Gems must fight against the Moon Dwellers, who attack them regularly to abduct them and to turn them into decorations. Each Gem is assigned a role, such as a fighter or a medic. Being only years old, Phosphophyllite is the youngest of the Gems and has no assignment yet. They wants to help to fight the Moon Dwellers, but is too weak and brittle for battle. One day the master of Gems, Kongou Adamantine , assigns them the task of creating a natural history encyclopedia.
Sentient gems! They fight! And love! But throughout its initial season, Land of the Lustrous has proven that the world is wide enough for more than one show about alien gems searching for identity and meaning while defending their right to exist. Lustrous is set in a post-human world, with the gems — there are 28 in all — living in a sprawling dorm under the care of a mysterious monk-like figure they call Sensei. Sensei is also the only male-presenting gem in the series, and all the gems treat Sensei as a mixture of father and teacher. Sensei tutors the gems about the world, and why they must fight in a neverending conflict with their enemies, the Lunarians.
The Gems fight against the Lunarians, beings who attack them and use their shattered bodies as decorations. Each Gem is assigned a role, and Phos, the youngest, is assigned to create an encyclopedia of natural history. Master Kongo finally decides to give the young Phos an assignment. Much to Phos dismay the assignment is to write an encyclopedia about the world. Phos is looking for ideas for the encyclopedia but is struggling to come up with anything.
Land of the Lustrous
At first I thought that this style would detract from the characters their emotions, but everything comes together to produce a brilliant adaptation. First off I want to show appreciation to the music score, which depicted the lonely, isolated atmosphere that the characters have to endure quite spectacularly. The opening was magical and flawless, while the battle scenes and important dialogue scenes had the perfect contrast to grip you to the moment.

In a world inhabited by crystalline lifeforms called The Lustrous, every unique gem must fight for their way of life against the threat of lunarians who would turn them into decorations. Phosphophyllite, the most fragile and brittle of gems, longs to join the battle. When Phos is instead assigned to complete a natural history of their world, it sounds like a dull and pointless task. But this new job brings Phos into contact with Cinnabar, a gem forced to live in isolation. Can Phos's seemingly mundane assignment lead both Phos and Cinnabar to the fulfillment they desire? To help them get a better grasp of their new-found abilities, Bort and Phos team up. Dia on the other hand feels a bit left out.
