Gifts To Give

They asked their friends to bring an unwrapped present for GiftsToGive to help . This week they made a presentation to the Greater New Bedford Homeless.

We are overwhelmed with gift requests for local children! Before we can fill the requests we need to process the donations. She goes on to tell us that she wants to start now and off she goes to work in the factory on her first volunteer day! This remarkable young woman is Sam McGill. Sam is currently helping us manage our Thrift Store. His friends thought this was pretty cool too.

What better way to spend ten dollars and help local High School and Middle school student interns help offset some of their upcoming costs for their enrichment field trips! Too windy to go sailing or maneuvering a kite. Which turns out to be perfect for motivating 40, volunteers into their new home! Seems the bees were in a hurry to get out of the wind, into their shelters and anxious to free their Queens. See our original story HERE.

When we think about service, one of the first things we think about is our Fire Department. Today we met Firefighter Andy Bois. Every year at this time the Fire Department collects thousands of new toys for New Bedford kids who would not otherwise get them for Christmas. We as a community count on them every day and in every emergency. Photos from their service days are here. I think everyone in my class left with a desire to do more to help people.

Thousands of items, Unbeatable prices, Terrific quality. Nathan Turner is not your average young man. Nathan has completed over 3, hours of volunteer community service. He is truly a bright and shining light and a most perfect example of giving and service. When we talk about young people making a difference, we talk about Nathan Turner! We see thousands of students every year sometimes we ask one of them to write a story of their experience.

Today was our Service Day which takes place every semester; students and faculty members volunteer in various places, one of which is GiftsToGive. Some from Tabor have been to GiftsToGive multiple times, while others stepped into the factory for the first time today. Caitlin, a junior to Tabor, is new to this activity. Today she sorted clothes for adults and kids. We worked on gift packages, books and toys. Rather than us telling the story, we asked student Sarah Bethoney for an essay on their group experience. Learning the process of how we can help the people in our community and seeing all the work that goes into it is a phenomenal thing to see.
